Moving On

Aug. 17, 2015

I’m getting transferred to a new area this week! I am sad to leave this awesome area, the members are so fun and I have made wonderful friends here. I am sad to leave the Lord’s awesome recent convert Suzy, she is so fun and I have loved every minute talking to her and helping her accept this Gospel into her life.  This past transfer we have found some pretty solid people and I am so excited for my cute baby Sister Nielsen to keep working in this area with her new companion. I’m gonna miss her! They have now completely taken out all the Spanish Sisters in this area, now it’s for the English to conquer!

This week has been good but also a good testimony builder. We have been bashed and put down for believing what we do. We have been called ‘deceivers’ ‘liars’ and ‘ignorant to the truth’. If anybody knows me they know that I would usually lash out and get defensive about what I KNOW to be the REAL TRUTH. But I have learned that “A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still”. We have to let the spirit convert and the spirit cannot compete for attention when there is contention nearby.
I know we as missionaries and members today do not go through the same challenges as the pioneers, persecuted and killed for their beliefs. But our awesome President Hanks told me this week that in the next 20 years it is going to be extremely difficult to be a member of Christ’s church and that I need to personally decide where I stand. My district leader Elder Sanders said that “we have ALREADY won the battle. Satan is just seeing how many casualties he can cause”.
WE MUST STAND FOR TRUTH AND RIGHTEOUSNESS AND DON’T BE NUMBERED IN THE CASUALTIES. We ARE fighting a very real fight against the world and I know that God is bigger than any other force that can come against us. I pray for your safety and courage to do what is RIGHT today and forever. I love you ALL and just remember that there are forces on both sides of the veil that are pulling for us and praying for our happiness.
Pray this week for the courage to stand for Christ and His Gospel.

Another branch of the olive tree

I am in another branch! I love being in little congregations and I feels so blessed to have been in branches my whole mission. What is more, I am in a SPANISH branch!! WHOOOO! There are only 3 in the entire mission so I feel so blessed to be here. And I think that God needs me to learn Spanish or something.
My companion is Hermana Torres. She is from Mexico and moved to Utah 6 years ago and that is when she was taught the Gospel and got baptized. She has such a strong testimony and I am so excited to work with her for her LAST TRANSFER. What is more, she is my sister! We were both trained by the amazing Hermana Barroso. It’s crazy because at the end of this I will have sent home two of my family members. They are all so crazy fun and I have been so extremely blessed to have amazing companions during my mission so far.
I basically have not time left so I will put some pics up from this morning’s hike and talk to y’all next week!
Write me a letter if you have time! New address is:

We drank HORCHATA all day

So there is this little helado (ice cream) shop near our apartment. Antonio is the awesome guy who owns it and he makes hand-made horchata and ice cream. La horchata is mi favorita, It’s tastes so good and cold, which is nice in this recent heat. I get it all the time:) And now I’m gonna connect that info to something I have learned this week:  When we are troubled, tired, and need something new and refreshing. Look to the scriptures. There is so much to study one hour everyday is not enough!! I have found the neatest things as I have read the scriptures everyday and I want to challenge y’all to keep up with your scripture study, or start now if you haven’t!  You will learn new things and find answers to life if you truly apply yourself and study, not just read.  You will find relief from the pressures of life and courage to choose the right if you just study the scriptures!

I love this Gospel and I love being a missionary that gets to spread it everyday.  I hope you have a wonderful week and drink some Horchata as you study the scriptures. love y’all too much!

70 hours

I survived the 70 hour proselyting week! It was actually really fun and we saw some amazing things happen. To keep from boring y’all with the details I’ll trying to do a condensed bullet-point list.

-On Tuesday we went tracting in the 100*+ heat for hours. And we didn’t really see any fruits. But I am now officialy a redneck!
-Wednesday was when we saw the fruits! We taught five lessons and found some awesome people to teach that we are going to follow up on. We were able to get in with Chivo and Kimberly, some old invest. and teach them about the BOM and they committed to read and pray about it! Their mom is less active so hopefully this will help them all come back to church!
-We went to zone training and the spirit was so strong there. We are super motivated right now to work with members and follow up on the commitments we extend to people. Missionary work is the best kind of work!!!
-Andy, Christina, their friend Todd and his mom Donna all came to church! They really liked it and Andy and Christina have been doing great on keeping the Word of Wisdom. Extra prayers for them would be awesome. They have a baptism date on the 15th.
We worked hard and saw so many other miralces with the Lord’s hand in our lives.  Although we did meet a lot of souther Babtists who slammed the door in our faces, we also met a lot of really open people who were willing to listen. I have found that when we aim for their hearts and not just their heads, the Gospel of Jesus Christ can bless everyone we meet.
Last night we were knocking on doors and a Hispanic Jehovah’s witness opened the door. Poor Sister Nielsen was so lost and I was getting Bible bashed by someone who doesn’t believe in the Plan of Salvation. I had never met anyone before who didn’tbelieve that we lived with God before we came here and that we can RETURN to live with him. He kept showing me scriptures about how we are dust and the God is Jehovah and some other strange interpretations of the Bible he was holding.  The spirit started to leave and before I could get started into bashing right back (anyone who knows me knows I like to argue). I heard the spirit say, “just say what you know, politely disagree and walk away.”  So I did that and even though I was a little chapped because I didn’t show him exactly where in the Bilble is says we can return to God. I felt better afterward because it strengthened my testimony of THIS Gospel. I know it’s the GOspel of Jesus Christ and He is my Savior.
I would love to challenge y’all this week to think about and study the Plan that God has for us and how that knowledge has blessed your life. Write down your testimony of the plan of Salvation and I promise you will gain a greater appreciation of our Heavenly Father’s love for us.
have a great week!

Wasps and BBQ

So the wasp thing happened earlier this week. we parked our bikes and went tracting for a bit and when we came back there was one, giant, red wasp that would NOT LEAVE OUR BIKES ALONE! we were help up for almost 15 minutes trying to get the wasp to go away. I bet we looked pretty silly running around with our helmets half on trying to get the wasp away. Nature is beautiful, but sometimes it hinders the work.

We walked A TON this week but got some yummy food out of it! Two days in a row some members saw us walking and picked us up and took us out for some yummy BBQ or Mexican food. Yay for blessings!

We are going to put in a 70 hour week this week so that means earlier and shorter studies and shorter meal times! It’s going to be hard but I now extremely worth it. It isn’t really about the time, but it’s about what we are willing to do to show God our dedication and diligence. It should be as hot as it has been so that is a blessing already.

I love this work and being a missionary is seriously the best. I can’t believe it’s been a year since i received my call. I know this Gospel is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it blesses us as we try to live it. I love this scripture in D&C 128:22 Brethren, shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad. Let the earth break forth into singing. Let the dead speak forth anthems of eternal praise to the King Immanuel, who hath ordained, before the world was, that which would enable us to redeem them out of their prison; for the prisoners shall go free.

have a great week y’all!
